The Maingi 40MW Solar PV Plant, located in Kedong, Mai Mahiu, Nakuru County, is a strategic renewable energy project aimed at bolstering Kenya’s clean energy capacity. Sited on 250 acres of leased land with optimal solar irradiation, the plant is expected to generate up to 92,155 MWh annually using a 1-axis tracking system, contributing significantly to grid stability and sustainable development. The location—just 2.5 km from the Suswa 132kV substation—offers ideal conditions for efficient power evacuation through a proposed 132kV double circuit line, with technical studies confirming grid compatibility under normal and contingency conditions.

The project has secured key approvals, including environmental licensing, land rights, and a completed grid connection study. It promises wide-ranging benefits such as job creation, increased energy access, reduced carbon emissions, and economic development in the Naivasha region. With growing electricity demand anticipated due to upcoming developments like dry ports and industrial parks, the Maingi Solar Plant is both timely and impactful. Financed under Kenya’s Feed-in-Tariff framework, the project reflects the country’s commitment to renewable energy transition and regional energy integration.
